U.S . President Trump said on 1 August that the U . S . will impose an additional tariff of 10% on Chinese goods worth USD300 billion and accused China of failing to fulfill the promise of purchasing more U . S . agricultural products.
On the evening of 13 August, Liu He, member of CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, Vice Premier and chief representative of Sino-U.S . comprehensive economic dialogue, talked with U . S . trade representative and Treasury Secretary over phone, during which Liu He made solemn representations to U . S . additional tariffs on Chinese goods staring on 1 September and the two parties agreed to talk over phone again in the coming two weeks . Commerce Minister Zhong Shan, PBC President Yi Gang and NDRC Deputy Director Ning Jizhe joined the phone call.
On the same day, U.S . trade representative office announced that the Trump Administration will postpone the additional tariff of 10% on some Chinese goods, including laptop and mobile phone, which was originally planned to take effect from next month.
