According to the latest investigation conducted by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Japanese steel mills plan to hike the output of crude steel to 16
A dealer in Tokyo attributed the YOY growth to natural disasters in Q3 2018 (Jul to Sep) and noted, "Steel mills record higher output compared with the same period of last year but suffer a slight decline compared with the previous quarter, because steel inventory still stand high in Japan."
Another dealer in Tokyo stated, although domestic demand is expected to remain strong, demand from construction industry may touch the ceiling as major projects of 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been completed. "Supported by other construction projects, demand wouldn't drop dramatically," the source added.
In Q3 2019 (Jul to Sep), the output of finished steel in Japanese market is expected to be RMB14.46 million tons, down by 2 . 7% YOY and down by 5 . 3% compared with the previous quarter; the exports are expected to be 7 . 75 million tons, up by 7 . 8% YOY and up by 10 . 8% compared with the previous quarter.
The production plan for H-beam steel is 940,000 tons, down by 3.3% YOY and down by 1% compared with the previous quarter; the production plan for small-sized steel is 1 . 99 million tons, down by 4 . 7% YOY and down by 8% compared with the previous quarter.
