Foreign Ministry: China will take countermeasures against U.S. additional tariff

In response to U.S. President Trump's tweet on an additional tariff of 10% on Chinese goods worth another USD300 billion, Hua Chunying, Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, stated on 2 August that China will absolutely take countermeasures to protect national key benefits and people's basic benefits if the U.S. imposes an additional tariff and the U.S. needs to suffer the consequences by itself.
Hua Chunying said at the routine press conference of 2 August that U.S. decision to impose an additional tariff of 10% on Chinese goods worth USD300 billion from 1 September seriously violates the consensus made by China and U.S. presidents in Osaka, deviates from the right track and does harm to solutions. China expresses strongly dissatisfaction and firm opposition to it.
According to Hua Chunying, the U.S. escalates China-U.S. trade friction by imposing an additional tariff, which runs counter to people's benefits of both countries and interests of the world and will make downturn influences on world economy. Not believing there will be a winner of the trade friction, China doesn't want to fight a battle, but it doesn't fear it. China won't accept any extreme pressure, intimidation and black mail and make no concession on significant matters of principle.
"We hope the U.S. can have a clear mind about the situation, give up illusions, correct wrong practices and go back to the right track of solving problems based on equality and mutual respect," she noted.
