The Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) is considering listing companies with ultra-low emissions as Class-A company which won't be required to cut or suspend production during periods of peak pollution this winter, said MEE spokesman Liu Youbin at the regular press conference on July 26.
According to Liu, MEE will continue to advance the ultra-low-emission upgrade in iron and steel industry and provide guidance on how to deal with severe air pollution based on China's Atmospheric Pollution Prevention and Control Law. Industrial companies, including iron and steel companies, won't be required by MEE to uniformly cut or suspend production . Local industrial companies should follow rules set by local authority.
"MEE is trying to come up with a guide on how to deal with severe air pollution problems. Companies are expected to fall into three category (Class A, B and C) based on their environmental performance and would take different measures to cope with pollution . These companies will be informed about the guidance in advance to make rational production arrangement, with minimum impact on economic activities," said the spokeman.
