1. Market Highlights
Prices for steel plate continued the downward trend in major Chinese domestic market during the month, amid a slow market. Prices for the direct raw material, steel billet failed to go up significantly, and the cost support for steel plate weakened. Reporting limited sales volumes, traders showed little confidence in the market prospect and were cautious about supplementing inventories. The downstream industry ran slowly in the traditional off-season, and the rigid demand was insufficient. Besides, end users only purchased according to urgent needs and were inactive in building stockpiles, both leading to a slow market. Insiders foresee a further price decline in July.
