Chinese government announces National-level Monitoring Rules on Ecological and Environmental Protection

Recently, China's State Council announced National-level Monitoring Rules on Ecological and Environmental Protection.
Pursuant to the Rules, Chinese government sets up the national-level monitoring mechanism on ecological and environmental protection, and sets up a responsible monitoring office which is staffed with employees only working on this mission; and the office will carry out monitoring inspections on governments of provinces and autonomous regions, departments under the State Council, and national state-owned companies. Monitoring will be done in forms of regular inspections, special-purpose inspections and recheck inspections.
The Rules also strengthen penalties on targeted organizations who will not or improperly fulfill their duties required by the Rules.
The Rules takes effect from June 6, 2019 on.
