In May, prices for black silicon carbide in the Chinese market dropped. The market demand was weak and producers had a certain inventory. At the same time, some plants in Gansu resumed production. Under these circumstances, these factors caused prices for black silicon carbide to drop. In mid-May, anthracite prices rose by about RMB100/t (USD14.47/t), ending the decline in silicon carbide prices.
In May, the supply of green silicon carbide in the Chinese market remained slightly tight and prices were firm. Some downstream consumers still could not buy enough natural lumps. A Xinjiang-based producer resumed production in early May, and the monthly output in the market increased by nearly 1,000t, but it still could not fill the supply vacancy. The company planned to increase production by 1,000 tons again in mid-June, and the market supply would be further supplemented.
In May, export prices for black silicon carbide declined following with domestic prices and export prices for green silicon carbide remained firm. In addition, due to the high prices for Chinese silicon carbide, some international orders flew to Russia, Turkey, and Germany.
