MIIT: iron and steel industry capacity utilization rate reaches 79.2% in Q1

Huang Libin, spokesman of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Director of Bureau of Operation Monitoring and Coordination, announced in a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on April 23, that Chinese industry has a stable beginning and upward expectation since the first quarter of 2019. In the first quarter, the added value of above-scale industry increased by 6.5% YOY, rebounding by 0.8% from the fourth quarter of last year and by 0.3% from last year.
Besides, the outcome of capacity reduction has been further consolidated in terms of deeply promoting supply-side structural reform. Huang Libin claimed that all the enterprises have carried out capacity replacement policy strictly, prohibited newly-added capacity of iron and steel and plate glass, controlled the newly-added capacity of primary aluminum and cracked down on the violation of iron and steel capacity. In the first quarter, the added value of raw material industry increased by 7.1%, up by 3.6% YOY; the iron and steel industry capacity utilization rate reached 79.2%, up by 2.3% YOY.
