Trent Mell, the Chief Executive of Canada First Cobalt Corp, disclosed on Wednesday that they will restart the operation of an idled cobalt refinery located in Canada within two years, adding that they are in talks to supply the battery-grade product to four leading automakers currently.
The company is planning to invest USD30 million in revamp of the plant.
The refinery will supply cobalt, a key ingredient in rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), to American end users after resuming production. Most cobalt refineries in the world are located in China, but to American end users, the refinery in Canada is nearer and thus has advantages in transportation.
