1. Market Highlights
After the New Year's Day holiday, Chinese manganese flake market was quiet. Most deals were concluded based on rigid demand and mainstream transactions prices were largely at RMB13,100-13,300/t (USD1,934-1,964/t), unchanged from late December . Some steel mills purchased manganese flake for January's production at normal prices . In January, the overseas market witnessed scarce enquiries and few new orders. As spot material supply got tighter in Chinese market from mid-January, some suppliers with stocks in hand raised offers slightly to RMB13,300-13,500/t (USD1,964-1,993/t) . Most export traders raised FOB offers as Yuan appreciated against Dollar and the export market saw limited transactions.
In late January, most manganese producers signed orders for the material to be produced in February in advance while traders and some consumers were active in making purchases. Mainstream transaction price stood at around RMB12,800/t (USD1,890/t). Only a few producers quoted RMB13,200/t (USD1,949/t) . However, downstream customers were reluctant to place orders without urgent need.
By the end of the month, mainstream prices for manganese flake 99.7%min were RMB13,200-13,400/t (USD1,949-1,979/t). As most manganese producers signed all orders for February's output, some that still had February's futures raised offer to around RMB13,200/t (USD1,949/t), up by about RMB400/t (USD59.06/t) from the previous week . With the coming of the Spring Festival holiday, the manganese flake market saw few deals.
Generally speaking, prices for manganese flake 99.7%min showed a stable trend in January 2019 with mainstream transaction prices standing at around RMB13,200-13,400/t (USD1,949-1,979/t) . The export market witnessed scarce new deals with weak demand.
