According to Ministry of Commerce of the P.R . C, China and the U . S . had a vice-ministerial level telephone communication on the morning of 4 January and confirmed that Jeffery Gerrish, U . S . deputy trade representative, will visit China on 7-8 January to have positive and constructive discussions on implementing important China-U . S . consensus on trade, which was reached by China and U . S . leaders in Argentina, with Chinese counterparts.
On 1 December, 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S . President Trump reached a consensus on trade war truce during the G20 Summit in Argentina, deciding to stop levying new tariffs for 90 days . Both parties expect to come to an agreement before the deadline of 2 March, 2019 through negotiation.
