Shandong to cut steel capacity by 3.55 million tons in 2018

On November 7, the General Office of the People's Government of Shandong Province issued a notice to implement the Detailed Rules about Action Plan for the Comprehensive Management of Air Pollution in the Autumn and Winter of 2018-2019 in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Surrounding Areas. According to the Detailed Rules, Shandong Province will increase the elimination and reduction of steel, coking, thermal power and other industries; the included steel mills shall shut down supporting equipment such as sintering machines, coking furnaces, and blast furnaces. In 2018, Shandong's steel capacity was reduced by 3.55 million tons, including 700,000 tons in Zibo and 2.85 million tons in Linyi. Seven transmission channel cities completed the task of eliminating coal-fired small thermal power units. Zibo eliminated 9 sets of 267,000 kilowatts; Jining eliminated 2 sets of 150,000 kilowatts; Liaocheng eliminated 1 set of 40,000 kilowatts. In Shandong, the elimination of independent coking plants in the seven transmission channel cities shall be increased.
