Though prices for raw materials increased obviously during the month, those for steel plate failed to go up both at home and abroad dragged by the slow market. On the one hand, the rigid demand from downstream industries remained insufficient and showed no signs of getting stronger restricted by the gloomy economy, while on the other hand, end users refused to build inventories and only purchased according to urgent needs in view of the downward price trend. Reporting limited sales volumes, traders were a little bit pessimistic about the market prospect and eager to conclude deals to avoid potential risks. Meanwhile, most mills were producing actively boosted by considerable profits, despite heavy environmental protection pressures.
