Tangshan city to shut down all zombie steel mills within 2018

In order to cut local surplus steel production capacity and to relocate heavily polluting industrial enterprises, the Hebei-based city Tangshan decided that all local zombie steel mills be shut down by the end of this year.
The Tangshan city government vowed to fight against local air pollution issue. It recently unveiled an action plan on air pollution responses which aims to, by the year of 2020, lift the city out of the national last-ten-city rank on air quality and to lift its own counties out of the provincial last-twenty-county rank; and indicators such as the number of good-air-quality days and average PM2.5 density have been clearly indentified in the action plan.
When all local zombie steel mills are shut down in Tangshan by the end of 2018, it is estimated that a total of 5 million-ton steel capacity and 2.81-million-ton iron capacity will be cut, and at the same time their matching sintering and coking process will be shut down too with a 1.85-million-ton surplus coking capacity to be cut.
By the year of 2020, Tangshan city will eliminate all local 1,000m3-below blast furnaces, 100t-below rotary furnaces and 180m2-below sintering machines, local steel mills will be integrated into a number of 30 from the existing 40, and the total steel capacity will be around 100 million tons.
