1. Market Highlights
Prices for manganese ore increased largely in early December due to the production suspension of submerged arc furnaces of lower than 20,000KVA in Pingluo, Ningxia and the tight supply of silicomanganese in Zhongwei and Shizuishan due to the electricity limitation. Before mid-December, prices for silicomanganese 65/17 were RMB9,000-9,200/t (USD1,393-1,424/t) EXW D/P, up by about RMB2,300/t (USD356/t) from RMB6,700-6,900/t (USD1,037-1,068/t) EXW D/P in early this month and some quotations were as high as RMB10,500-10,900/t (USD1,625-1,687/t) EXW D/P. In mid-December, prices for silicomanganese were stable and the there were fewer high quotations in the market as HBIS raised its December bidding price for silicomanganese to RMB9,000/t (USD1,393/t) VAT included delivered D/A but prices for silicomanganese stopped increasing and began to decreased in middle of the month when they climbed to RMB9,100-9,300/t (USD1,409-1,439/t) VAT included EXW D/P. In late December, prices for silicomanganese declined slightly by RMB500/t (USD77.39/t) from mid-December to RMB8,600-8,800/t (USD1,331-1,362/t) VAT included EXW D/P due to the end of production limitation in Ningxia. HC ferromanganese prices moved up following notably increasing prices for silicomanganese with those of high carbon ferromanganese 65%min increasing to RMB8,000-8,200/t (USD1,238-1,269/t) VAT included EXW D/P in middle the month, up by RMB2,000/t (USD309/t) from those in early December. Despite that prices for the material decreased in late the month due to rare deals, spot prices for high carbon ferromanganese climbed to as high as RMB8,300-8,500/t (USD1,285-1,316/t) VAT included EXW D/P as Shanxi Dongfang Resources raised its HC ferromanganese quotation to RMB8,500/t (USD1,316/t) VAT included EXW D/P.
In early December, prices for manganese ore increased slightly supported by high prices for silicomanganese, but the upward trend was stable due to limited stocks at ports. In middle of the month, prices for manganese ore increased sharply with mainstream prices climbing to RMB8-10/dmtu (USD1 . 24-1.55/dmtu) . However, there were rare deals closed at high prices or large volumes in the market . Prices for manganese ore began to decrease in late the month.
