Handan Zongheng Steel suspends production entirely

Known as a production base for middle and wide HR strip, Handan Zongheng Steel Group Co., Ltd. has announced to cease production completely. It is said that it owns four blast furnaces, two converters and two production lines of middle and wide strip, with an annual capacity of above 2.5 million tons of iron and steel respectively.
Located in Hucun Industrial Park and initially founded in 2003, Handan Zongheng Steel Group Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive iron and steel enterprises integrating sintering, iron-making, steel-making, steel-rolling and using by-product heat and pressure to generate electricity, with staff totaling over 4,000, and is a member unit of China Iron and Steel Association.
According to the iron and steel de-capacity plan of Handan, the company shut down No.2 blast furnace in October 2015 and reduced the steelmaking capacity of 520,000t in the year; it suspended one blast furnace and one converter in October 2016, cutting iron-making and steelmaking capacity of 520,000t and 780,000t respectively; late this August, the company halted the remaining two blast furnaces and one converter, further reducing iron-making and steelmaking capacity of 1.04 million tons and 780,000t respectively.
The suspension of Zongheng Steel will reduce major pollutants of 3,837tpy. The group will distribute staff to other companies of the group or make uniform unemployment insurance for them as a way of arrangement.
