Wire rod and rebar prices in major markets of China went up further in August mainly supported by higher raw material costs and the price increase in futures market. However, seeing the continuous price increase, customers without urgent need for materials were holding a wait-and-see attitude and refusing to place orders. Steel mills were still active in producing construction steels because of relatively high profits. Considering September is the traditionally high season for steel industry, insiders think that prices for wire rod and rebar are likely to increase again in the coming month.
