Influenced by high stocks and weak demand from downstream consumers, prices of CRC and HGI coil dropped sharply in China in March. Those of CRC totally fell by RMB800-900/t (USD116-130/t) in the month and those of HGI coil recorded a mark-down of RMB500-600/t (USD72-87/t) during the same time. Steel mills were short of confidence in the coming market and enlarged discounts to distributors. As the demand from downstream consumers can hardly become strong in the low season, insiders predict prices for CRC and HGI coil are likely to go on declining in April but the mark-down will be narrowed.
