Chrome ore import volume and value through Shanghai Port up in Q1 of this year

According to statistics from Shanghai Pudong Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, chrome ore import volume and value through Shanghai Port reached 186,900t and USD52.869 million in Q1 of 2017, up by 143.3% YOY and 392.5% YOY respectively.
With the climbing prices, containerized chrome ore imported through Shanghai Port shows new changes that mixed wholesale and bottom ore products increased significantly, leading to more difficulties in inspection. The mixed wholesale and bottom ore previously in small-scale production areas of Albania and Oman started to appear in mainstream production areas such as South Africa with continuously increasing prices. If the taste of chrome ore by mixed wholesale differs largely when mixed insufficiently, it is very likely to result in significant fluctuations in later inspection results and trade disputes with increasingly high risks of inspection.
Pudong Inspection and Quarantine Bureau further strengthened the inspection of chrome ore in a bid to avoid risks, and formulated more stringent sample plans on mixed wholesale chrome ore by raising sample frequency and volumes in order to find the more representative samples. Meanwhile, the bureau brings in video recorders during the sampling process, explores digitization method of sampling containerized chrome ore and perfects the tracing mechanism.
