AM Statistics: China's lithium carbonate output down by 23.3% MOM in Feb 2017

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Mar 17 - According to statistics from Asian Metal, China’s lithium carbonate output totaled about 2,800t in February, down by around 23.3% MOM. In particular, the output of battery grade lithium carbonate was about 2,250t, declining by approximately 18.2% MOM, and that of industrial grade lithium carbonate was around 550t.

As some producers generally conducted one-month equipment maintenance and debugging around the Spring Festival, China’s lithium carbonate output declined in February. Meanwhile, the domestic spodumene and lepidolite markets saw tight supply since late 2016, the output of some producers decreased gradually due to limited raw material. On the other hand, as some producers in Qinghai cut the output or shut down limited by the weather, industrial grade lithium carbonate supply moved down sharply.
In March, the weather warms up gradually in Qinghai, it is anticipated that industrial grade lithium carbonate will increase progressively. Despite relatively stable supply of imported spodumene, battery grade lithium carbonate producers complete maintenance and resume production in succession; it is anticipated that domestic lithium carbonate output will increase gradually in March.
