Chinese aluminum scraps import volume down by 8.12% YOY in 2016

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Jan 17 - According to China Customs Data, China imported around 1.92 million tonnes of aluminum scraps in 2016, down by 8.12% YOY. Last December, the import volume moved down by 10.2% MOM to around 178,000t.

During the Christmas Holiday overseas, aluminum scraps supply became tight last December, which supported aluminum scraps prices at a high level.
The US remained the biggest aluminum scraps supplier to China with a volume at around 570,000t, down by 11.1% YOY in 2016, accounting for 29.7% of China’s total imports. The volume from Hong Kong China climbed up by 9.5% YOY to around 365,000t, 19% of Chinese total imports.

Australia was the third biggest supplier in 2016, with a volume of 317,000t, followed by Malaysia and the UK, with the volume at 271,000t and 122,000t respectively.
