BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Jan 17 - Zimbabwe government will issue deadlines for chrome mining companies to release unutilized reserves this year with a target to reclaim 40,000 hectares of chrome-rich idle ground.
According to an official from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the government has got 18,000 hectares from Zimasco and is waiting for ZimAlloys to release ground. With regard to the released ground, the source added that the ground will be given to other miners providing that they extract the mineral, and if they don’t, the government will reclaim the ground again.
The measure will give Zimbabwe, which holds the second largest chrome deposits in the word, the momentum to exploit the mineral.
In order to increase incomes, Zimbabwean government not only canceled a ban on raw chrome ore exports, but also lifted a 20% export tax on the metal.
