Prices for steel pipe soared in China’s domestic markets during the month, boosted by increasing raw material prices and traders’ eagerness, with the markup raging from RMB200/t (USD30/t) to RMB300/t (USD45/t)
. Faced with rising prices for blank tubing but insufficient orders, more and more seamless pipe producers halted production during the month and deliveries to the market were reduced . In the meantime, demand from downstream industries remained insufficient, influenced by the high temperatures and continuous rainfall, which meant the overall market performance was unsatisfactory . Given that prices for other major steel products like HRC and rebar have shown a strong upward trend, insiders predict a further increase in steel pipe prices during August.
