In May, while cobalt products prices in the international markets were stable, prices in the Chinese market slipped slightly. In spite of the decline, the latter still turned out to be higher than the former. And the news stirred up the most heated discussion was the one with “Freeport selling its Congo copper mine to China Molybdenum”, which indicated different expectations on cobalt products prices between domestic and overseas producers: most Chinese producers expect the prices to start to rebound at year end, while foreign producers disputed with that. With the approaching of the traditional summer break in July, cobalt market is about to embrace its slack season, during which supply for cobalt products will still be largely behind the demand as the market activity remained sporadic in May and demand for cobalt sulfate from ternary material industry has slowed down. Therefore, related participants think prices for cobalt products will be flat during June. Besides, some producers hope the government could provide some support to the prices by making reservation.
