In April, prices of wire rod and rebar generally increased by 7%-9%, supported by increased production cost. Steel mills were encouraged and lifted ex-works prices sharply according to the market price rise. However, the demand from downstream consumers failed to become strong enough. Prices showed some signs of falling back in the end of the month due to the bad market performance. Insiders predict that prices for wire rod and rebar are likely to come down in May.
