As prices for raw materials such as steel billet and iron ore fines stayed firm this month, those for wire rod and rebar stopped falling in most of China’s leading markets, and even moved up a little compared with those in December. However, demand from construction projects shrank at the end of January as more and more participants began leaving the market for the Spring Festival holiday. Traders weren’t showing much confidence in the market outlook after the holiday. Insiders predict that prices for wire rod and rebar are likely to come down a little in February.
