Chinese HR strip prices saw an upward trend during the month mainly supported by higher raw material costs and the increase in steel mills’ list prices. As steel billet prices went up, major HR strip producers raised their prices accordingly. However, with downstream customers still struggling amid the gloomy economy and traditional off-season, the market sales performance continued to be poor. Traders refused to build substantial stockpiles to avoid any risks and the market inventory remained low. With Chinese New Year almost upon us, insiders predict the market will remain dim in the coming month.
