BEIJING (Asian Metal) 16 Nov 15 - Russian selenium powder 99.8%min market keeps quiet with few deals concluded in the spot market, but local suppliers think lowering prices cannot promote deals and stabilize prices of the material at USD22.6-23.6/kg at present, unchanged from those of late last month.
A Russian selenium powder 99.8%min trader claimed that they have no stocks and only make purchases according to firm orders. As far as he knows, the price of the material from their supplier is about USD23.6/kg early this week, rarely changed from that of last week. However, they have not concluded any deals since they bought about 190kg at USD26.0/kg in early September to finish orders from regular clients.
The traders’ monthly trading volume was around 250-300kg in the first half of year, but they can only receive some small orders from regular clients every two months now.
Another Russian selenium powder 99.8%min trader confirmed that mainstream prices of the material are stable at USD22.6-23.6/kg currently from local suppliers, little changed from those of early this month. However, as they hold dozens of kilograms of stocks, which were bought at the end of last year at high prices, they will not make replenishments in a short time.
"Current prices are sharply lower than our purchasing costs and in view of soft demand in the domestic market, we suspended selling the material for a while and watch the market in the near future,” said the source, adding that they have not received any orders since they sold about 50kg at USD59/kg in the middle of May.
