AM Statistics: China's imported bauxite stocks up by 6.8% MOM in late October

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 3 Nov 15 - According to Asian Metal database, imported bauxite stocks in China climbed up by 6.8% MOM to around 31.5 million tonnes, down by 9.2% YOY. In October, Chinese consumption for imported bauxite dropped by 2.7% MOM to around 4.8 million tonnes, up by 45.3% YOY.

In October, Chinese alumina prices decreased significantly and refineries suffered more losses, so some refineries in Henan stopped consuming imported bauxite. The stocks increased accordingly in late October. Alumina prices may continue to stay at low levels in late 2015, so the consumption for imported bauxite may not get improved.
Meanwhile, Chinese buyers prepared plenty of imported bauxite before November, when rainy season may start in Malaysia. In September, China imported around 6.8 million tonnes of bauxite and the volume may keep at a high level in October.
