BEIJING (Asian Metal) 8 Sep 15 - The steel plate price continues to go down in China at the moment, with a markdown of RMB10-30/t (USD1.6-4.8/t). Most traders attribute the price decline to the poor sales performance and show pessimism about the market prospect in coming two weeks. Insiders suppose that the steel plate price is likely to keep the downward trend in following two or three days.
A trader in Shanghai offers RMB2,040/t (USD320/t) VAT included for steel plate Q235 16-20mm from Pingxiang Steel, down by RMB10/t (USD1.6/t) over last trading day.
With a current sales volume of less than 200t per day, two-thirds of the projected level, the source thinks it is the poor market performance that caused a continuous price decline. Holding a low stock of 5,000t in hand against the regular level of 8,000t, he shows no confidence in the market prospect and does not plan to supplement inventory in the near future. “Most downstream customers hold wait-and-see attitudes towards the market outlook and just purchase according to urgent needs, instead of large quantities,” he complains.
