Chinese rare earth market has witnessed soft demand and dropping price from January to August in 2015
. The demand from NdFeB magnet industry remained soft, which resulted in limited buying activities in PrNd related markets . The prices for PrNd related products have kept going down excepting for in this Q1 when rare earth separation plants (“separate plants” for short) halted production to support price. PrNd oxide price dropped to RMB225,000-230,000/t in late August, with a decrease of 19% from RMB278,000-283,000/t of early January . The operating rate of separation plants was less than 50% from this January to August . According to Asian Metal’s rough statistics, China’s PrNd oxide output in H1 of 2015 was around 18,000 tons . As NdFeB magnet industry showed no signs of rebounding, PrNd mischmetal demand was poor, which resulted in slow buying activities and sliding price in PrNd oxide market . There were around 10 tons of separation plants ceased production in early August and another 20 plan to halt production in early September . Normally speaking, September and October are the busy seasons for NdFeB magnet industry, and overseas consumers will back market to make purchase . Therefore, it is predicted that PrNd oxide market will pick up a bit and separation plants will resume production in September and October . China’s PrNd oxide output in H2 of 2015 is supposed to be same with that of H1 . The total output in 2015 will be around 36,000 tons .
