Chinese HR strip prices maintained a downward trend in the first week of this month on lower steel billet prices and weak customer demand, but rebounded significantly on higher raw material costs. Demand from downstream customers continued to be weak, given the gloomy economy, and many HR strip producers had to cut or quit production. Insiders do not expect the market to improve in the coming month.
