BEIJING (Asian Metal) 08 Jun 05 – Antimony concentrate supply has been hindered by heavy rains in some regions of Hunan province, market sources reported to Asian Metal today.
“Our mine in Huaihua, Hunan, has halted production for several days due to heavy rains,” an official from a major Hunan-based antimony smelter said. “But the smelter is still fully running because we have sufficient raw materials in stock . ”
The company is trying its best to drain the water out of the mine in order to recover normal production as soon as possible. “The problem will be solved soon,” the source said .
According to the source, the mine has a monthly output of 200t of antimony concentrate 40%, which provides sufficient raw materials for the smelter’s antimony production.
The smelter has no spot materials at present. The current concluded price is around RMB27,500/t ex works .
A Guangdong-based trader reported that some mines in Shaoyang, Hunan, have been seriously affected by the floods. Some roads have been crippled due to heavy rains .
“What we’re concerned about now is whether the price will be driven up by the reduced raw material supply and transportation problems.”
According to the source, “The antimony ingot price has increased to over RMB27,000/t ex works. We have no plan to purchase currently.”
