The Asian Metal survey into production at 30 copper refineries in China showed that total output based on the annual capacity of 8.16 million tons was 535,300t in April, up by 10,800t compared with March. Among the 30 copper refineries, there are four large-scale producers each with an annual capacity of 600,000t or above, which have a combined capacity of 2.82 million tons; 23 mid-sized producers each have a capacity of between 100,000-600,000tpy with 5.16 million tons in total; and three producers have a capacity of below 100,000tpy, which have a combined capacity of 0.18 million tons. The operating rates in different regions are shown below in form:
In April, copper prices went up and most domestic refineries produced copper actively, with the operating rate climbing up. Hubei Daye Nonferrous Metal Co., Ltd increased raw materials purchasing and copper outputs edged up. Besides, Fuchunjiang Smelting and Jianchang Copper finished maintenance in March and produced normally during April. Therefore, their copper outputs increased. Although Yunnan Copper and Jinchuan Group made maintenance, copper outputs declined to some extent, other refineries produced the metal actively. As a result, the average operating rate of main copper refineries in China went up in April.
In May,Yanggu Xiangguang Copper stopped copper production for annual repair and copper outputs would decline sharply. If the outputs of the other refineries do not increase notably, the average operating rate of main copper refineries in China would fall in May.
