LONDON (Asian Metal) 3 Feb 15 - The European silicon carbide market saw little movement or change in the first month of 2015, reflecting the lack of expectation of growth in demand for Q1. Market sources reported unchanged demand levels in January, with market sources noting no change in the level of spot activity seen, with most conceding that their main business had been on long term contracts . The prices seen in the market held firm, with market sources noting lack of downstream activity and oversupply in the market as to its strong stability. Metallurgical grade silicon carbide 88% min prices held firm in the range EUR780-830/t DDP Europe, refractory grade silicon carbide 92% min at EUR1,000-1,050/t DDP with mid-grade 95%min material available at EUR1,100/t DDP and abrasive silicon carbide 98%min held flat at EUR1,150/t DDP . February 2015 is expected to bring about much the same situation as has been reported throughout January . Market sources noted that there was very little expectation of a rally on the price before the end of Q1, which is likely to be driven by a lack of improvement upon demand levels in the market.
