Thanks to the removal of the export tariffs for manganese flakes and manganese lumps (unwrought manganese) on January 1st, 2013, Chinese manganese metal export volumes rebounded substantially in 2013
. And the market performance was generally better still in the first half of 2014 . According to data released by China Customs, China exported 159,100 tonnes of manganese metals between January and June, an increase of 8 . 23% year on year . Within this figure, exports of unwrought manganese totaled 140,600 tonnes, seeing an increase of 17 . 56% . However, exports of manganese briquettes (wrought manganese) dropped by 32 . 73% to 18,500 tonnes, due to the loss of price advantages over unwrought manganese, including manganese flakes and manganese lumps . Meanwhile, exports without VAT hit formal exports hard, and according to customs data made the monthly export prices much lower than the mainstream prices, which included VAT.
