Chinese selenium 99.9% prices fell by RMB10/kg (USD1.6/kg) to RMB375-405/kg (USD60.8-65.6/kg) in the first half of the month as a result of declining manganese flake prices, along with the sluggish downstream demand from glass and ceramics plants. Meanwhile, Chinese selenium dioxide prices decreased to the tune of RMB15/kg (USD2.4/kg), reaching RMB250-260/kg (USD40.5-42.1/kg). However, in the second half of July, further listing of selenium 99.9% by Fanya Exchange energised the market to some extent, pushing prices up by RMB5/kg (USD0.8/kg), and they hovered around RMB380-410/kg (USD61.6-66.4/kg) until the end of the month. In the meantime, prices for selenium dioxide remained stable throughout the rest of July.
Meanwhile, the Chinese tellurium 99.99% market was quiet in July, and most of the deals were concluded via long-term contracts. Due to a reduction in the number of refrigeration plants, the market saw weaker demand, which led to the price of tellurium 99.99% declining by RMB5/kg (USD0.8/kg) to RMB780-830(USD126.4-134.5/kg). However, suppliers believed the market performance would be better in the second half of 2014 in view of the revival in the overseas solar industry.
