Both the quantities and transaction prices for manganese metals from Chinese manganese steel mills decreased month on month in July, contributing to the downtrend in manganese flake prices alongside slowing purchases from overseas consumers during the summer. The mainstream offers for the material were around RMB12,300-12,600/t (USD1,993-2,041/t) at the end of July, down by RMB150/t (USD24/t) since the beginning of the month.Asian Metal Copyright In addition, the operating rate among Chinese manganese flake plants saw little change in July with northern producers expanding their production, while those in the south reduced outputs as a result of hot weather and poor market performance.Asian Metal Copyright In addition, the operating rate among Chinese manganese flake plants saw little change in July with northern producers expanding their production, while those in the south reduced outputs as a result of hot weather and poor market performance.

Domestic traders followed the overseas suppliers in increasing the price of Australian manganese ore 43-44% in early July, but in reality the market was dim with slack demand from downstream industries, resulting in falling prices later in the month. As the largest consumers of Turkish manganese ore, Chinese purchasers showed limited demand for the material, and the consistently sluggish purchasing volumes had a direct effect on the price [?holding up?] after a fall in Turkish manganese ore 40% FOB prices in mid-to-late July.
