BEIJING (Asian Metal) 30 May 05 – As foreign chromium oxide producers opt to raise prices 15% by July 1, a major chromium metal producer in China also plans to increase prices.
“If foreign chromium oxide prices increase by 15%, chromium metal prices should rise by around RMB2,000/t accordingly," a sales manager from a major chromium smelter in China told Asian Metal.
Foreign chromium oxide producers raised prices in April by about 20%, prompting Chinese smelters to increase their chromium metal prices to around RMB58,000/t, where they have stayed until now.
According to the source, some Chinese chromium metal suppliers’ prices are higher, at around RMB60,000-62,000/t in Hebei, and RMB64,000/t in Hubei.
The smelter produces about 60tpm of chromium metal at present, with 4-8t in stock.
The smelter also produces 2,000tpm of MC ferrochrome, with concluded prices at around RMB10,500/t ex works.
