Henan was one of the first provinces to see rapid development of its primary aluminum capacity with annual production values moving ever closer to RMB100 billion. However, the industrial strength of the province was quickly eroded with other regions in China catching up, especially those in Northwest China, namely Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai and Ningxia. What’s more, spiraling costs resulting from high electricity prices have inhibited the development of primary aluminum in Henan in recent years.
