The domestic wire rod and rebar market did not make progress in the first month of 2014 and prices kept a downward trend dragged by the shrinking demand from downstream buyers and participants’ pessimistic attitude towards the market after the Spring Festival
. From the middle of January, end users started retreating from the market for the holiday and the demand for construction steel began decreasing . Meanwhile, steel mills cut ex-works prices time after time and it also worsened the market . About the coming market in February, insiders predicted that prices are likely to go up with the demand getting recovered but the markup would be limited because the total daily output of crude steel from major Chinese mills showed some clues of increasing again in early January after one-month’s decrease.
