Prices of both selenium powder and selenium dioxide declined in September, with the former dropped by RMB10/kg (USD1.6/kg) to RMB450-500/kg (USD73.8-80.1/kg) during the month, while figures of selenium dioxide down by RMB25/kg (USD4.1/kg) to RMB330-340/kg (USD54.2-55.8/kg). Sources noted that prices decreased mainly because of the increasing supply. According to Customs data, China imported 183t of selenium in August, up by 23t compared with that of July. In addition, operating rate of downstream electrolytic manganese industry had not rebounded significantly. Hence, suppliers had to decrease their offers in order to promote sales.
Meanwhile, Chinese suppliers kept tellurium offers stable in September as production cost stayed firm while prices reached the bottom line in August. However, there were rare large deals concluded in the market as supply was sufficient in spot market and downstream users only purchased according to their immediate needs.
