Chromium metal prices continue to raise

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 13 May 05 – Driven by strong demand, chromium prices have risen since the beginning of this year, now reaching as high as USD5,900-6,000/t FOB CMP, major chromium smelters in China reported to Asian Metal.
This compares with USD5,800-5,850/t FOB CMP earlier this April and USD5,700-5,750/t mid this March.
“Currently, we sell chromium at USD5,900-6,000/mt FOB CMP, but the highest deal we have made is close to USD6,100/mt FOB CMP,” a Major chromium producer told Asian Metal. At present, the smelter produces about 200tpm of chromium.
The source also disclosed prices of around RMB58,000/mt domestically.
The smelter operates at its full production capacity of 3,000tpm HC ferrochrome, with concluded prices around RMB7,300/t since the end of April.
"Our prices for chromium are around RMB58,000-59,000/t in Chinese domestic markets," an official from another major chromium producer told said. The smelter now has about 10t of chromium in stock.
According to the source, its HC ferrochrome prices are around RMB7,200/t. With chrome ore stockpiles sufficient for 5 months of production, the smelter is running on its full production capacity of 3,000tpm.
