BEIJING (Asian Metal) 10 May 05 – With the impact of the new tax regulation to cut the antimony export tax rebate from 13% to 8%, suppliers have begun quoting higher prices for antimony trioxide, market participants reported to Asian Metal today.
According to a Hong Kong-based trader, a smelter in South China quoted USD2,750/t FOB today, an increase of USD100/t since the May holidays. In view of the reduced tax rebate, the price hike is within expectation, according to the source. “However, it shouldn’t be as high as USD100/t, ” said the source, adding that foreign buyers may find USD70-80/t acceptable.
A Shenzhen-based trader confirmed that domestic producers quoted about RMB1,000/t higher for antimony trioxide after the holiday. According to the source, the latest deal was concluded at USD2,620/t FOB during the last week of April. “We’ll have to quote at least USD100/t higher if we intend to enter the market . ”
However, neither trader currently quotes foreign buyers as the market is unclear at the moment. “We’d better wait, rather than rush into the market,” the source said .
Other than increased export quotations, the domestic market price is rumored to have also edged up.
According to an antimony trioxide consumer in South-China, a major antimony trioxide producer quoted higher for its high-quality product. “Just before May Day, the price was around RMB23,500/t ex works, however, the smelter quoted us at RMB24,000/t now,” the source complained .
While the company regularly purchases considerable amounts of material from major domestic producers, it also pays attention to the spot market.
