ⅠSteel production capacity in Xinjiang
Steel industry started earlier in Xinjiang with the predecessor of Baogang Group Xinjiang Bayi Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. being constructed in 1951 while develop rather late. The output of steel amounted to 11.38 million tons in 2012, and demand for steel has increased greatly in Xinjiang in recent two years as economic construction develops rapidly with the government accelerating the support policies toward the area. Many constructing steel processing projects or those to be built are carried out urgently, and steel production capacity will reach to 37.8 million tons in Xinjiang in 2015, which will need more than 55 million tons of iron ore.
