Due to being rich in bauxite reserve, aluminum smelters in Southwest China can get cheaper alumina, while power cost in their smelting plants is much higher than that in Northwest China. With aluminum ingot price wandering at recent low levels, smelters in Southwest China suffer great losses. Some smelters had to cut production to reduce losses. They need to find a way out.
