Most of Chinese aluminum smelting plants suffer losses due to low aluminum ingot price and high production cost. Thus some of them cut production since the third quarter of 2012. Some more smelting plants also started to cut production in March. However, total Chinese primary aluminum production did not reduce, because the operation of new smelting capacities stabilized gradually. Thus, production reduction in some smelting plant is still far from enough to support aluminum ingot price.
