Asian Metal meets SHU Powders in South Africa

On Monday the 11th of November 2013 Scott Yarham, Minor Metals Analyst for Asian Metal, met with Dr. Michael Oehlers, General Manager of SHU Powder, in Durban South Africa. The meeting involved a visit to Shu Powders head office in Durban, a tour around their cobalt production plant and a discussion on the company’s origins and their involvement in the current market.
Shu Powders Ltd, first conceptualized in 2003 is now one of the top producers of cobalt powder in the world. Shu Powders was formally founded in 2004 by three entrepreneurs, all with extensive backgrounds in the cobalt industry. The company has extensive experience in the sales, production and sourcing of cobalt. Shu was formed to supply customers with cobalt powders that meet their unique needs and specifications. The company markets cobalt powders at a globally competitive price and with a key focus on keeping operational costs low.
The visit involved a trip around their production plant with Michael explaining the different stages of their process in manufacturing their cobalt powders. The tour then went from their production plant to the laboratory Shu Powders have on site, this used to ensure the quality of the powder. Michael explained that the company wishes to produce quality material that is affordable and reliable. The current global market in Europe has been mostly dominated by two major players therefore they believe in providing customers with options at competitive price is an opportunity that they are looking to further exploit.
Michael thanked Scott and Asian Metal for maintaining regular contact as he found the conversations informative and helpful. Michael explained he would like to work even closer with Asian Metal moving forward and as he found the service useful and an important tool for their business. Michael explained that he was impressed with the coverage of our articles and the depth of our information.
