World Nickel Industrial Chain Summit 2012

End of Forum: With the support and trust of companies in nickel industry, Asian Metal has successfully organized 2nd World Nickel Industrial Chain Summit on April 10-11 in Hangzhou Zhejiang, China. More than 100 delegates both at home and abroad attended the event.; The forum began at 9:00 in the morning of 10th April. Firstly, the emcee, Rita Bian delivered the opening speech of Mr. Gao Xingtong, General Manger of Base Metal Department of Asian Metal for the forum.; Secondly, Xie Hai, General Manager of Marketing Department of Jinchuan Group Co., Ltd., discussed Outlook for Nickel Market in 2013. Mr. Xie talked price review, analysis on supply and demand, outlook on future market and profile of Jinchuan Group. At last, Mr. Xie pointed out that under the background of mild growth and sufficient liquidity globally in 2013, the nickel price is estimated to rise, but the aggregating oversupply is likely to restrain the rising room of nickel price. The price of 3-month nickel futures on LME is likely to fluctuate into a downtrend throughout the year with the year-high expected to happen in early Q2. The number is likely to hovering between USD15,000-18,000/t, averaging at USD17,200/t.; Mr. Wang Daming, General Manger of Inner Mongolia Xinyi Metallurgy Co., Ltd. gave a report on “Ferronickel Industry’s Development and prospect”. He analyzed some problems in ferronickel production. Mr. Wang reported that ferronickel producers should master the technology in ferronickel produce and decrease the production cost. In the reported, Mr. Wang emphasizesd ferronickel producers have to try their best to improve ferronickel produce technology.; Ms. Sun Junmei, Engineer Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy expounded the Chinese Nickel Industry and NPI Processes. The report explained Chinese nickel supply, Chinese nickel consumption and technology processes of NPI. Ms. Sun introduced impacted by the decreasing nickel price, many blast/ traditional electrical furnaces stopped /cut production, and NPI production will be dominated by RKEF process. Meanwhile, Ms. Sun compared the different technology of ferronickel produce. At last, Ms. Sun indicated that direct reduction in rotary kiln process has the many advantages, but the technique is new for Chinese NPI producers, and it is immature. The process is still in experimental stages.; Mr. Li Bin, The administrative Vice-General Manger of Ganzhou City Xinlong New Energy Materials Co., Ltd., gave a speech on “Production and Development of Ternary Layered Materials”. The report introduced lithium ion battery and industrialization of Ternary Layered Materials, Ternary Materials output and distribution, Ternary Materials situation of application and so on. Following the development of electronic equipment, the application of Ternary Materials increased greatly, and more and more participants started into the Ternary Materials market. Mr. Li indicated that Ternary Materials mainly used in laptop, Mobile phone, digital products, electric tool, electric bicycle, full electric vehicle, portable power source field. At last, Mr. Li indicated there are some problems in Ternary Materials market, such as lack technological Innovation, lack talent, disadvantage of operation, and poor international competitiveness. Mr. Li indicated that Chinese company’s should improve the management level, perfect the quality of products and increased the competitiveness.; In the afternoon, Mr. Wang Ping, the vice manager of Hanking Industrial Group, a professor at the university of science and technology Beijing and doctor of engineer, introduced the current lateritic nickel ore method smelting technology in detail. Dr. Wang compared the world mainstream method of nickel smelting technology, including HATCH process, Sinosteel binhai nickel industry process, Dingxin stainless steel process, Japan Dajiang mountain craft and the other craft of ferronickel production projects. At last, Professor Wang discussed the current widespread concerns about lateritic nickel ore direct reduction. He pointed out that the projects of direct reduction including rotary kiln direct reduction (Dajiang Moutain, Qichang, Kairui), rotary hearth furnace direct reduction (an enterprise in Henan province), car bottom furnace direct reduction (Tangshan Winters) and tunnel kiln direct reduction (China east nickel resource). Dr. Wang said that fusion is necessary to nickel smelting technology, so blast furnace and Conventional EF are the most successful. However, we should make it true to replace coke and electricity with coal.; Afterwards, Mr. Liu Guanghuo, the chairman of Zhejiang Huaguang Smelting Group, made a brilliant speech to discuss the NPI production cost and the production technology status and development in the angle of the NPI enterprise. Mr. Liu stated his points, such as the analysis of NPI production cost, the problems of NPI smelting technology, the smelting cost control and the improvement of smelting craft. Finally, Mr. Liu pointed out that NPI has been the seasoning of nickel market, although nickel price is at the low level, and not only NPI could reduce the production cost of stainless steel, but also it could limited the crazy rise of nickel price, which it will make that NPI market could get rid of the past bondage and make a healthy improvement and development in the future. Therefore, NPI market will be a sunshine industry in the future.; In the end of the summit, Mr. Wu Peng, the manager of product development service center in Bohai Commodity Exchange, introduced the troubles and the innovation model of the traditional nickel market. The speech put forwarded that the traditional nickel industry was more and more difficult- the road is where? And Mr. Wu introduced Bohai Commodity Exchange, the newest spot market and e-commerce platform + exchange. The manager Wu recommended the exchange mode, and its advantage and so on.; All reporters fully expressed their views with great passion, which aroused active response of participants.
