Selenium demand was a bit quiet in April when downstream industries were not in good performance. However, the high replacement cost due to firm price in global market supported selenium price at a high level for most of the time in the month. As the import volume of over 150 metric tons was released late the month, selenium price started to slide while demand remained dull. Participants were losing confidence for future market.
Tellurium market was also inactive in April but the price was volatile due to low availability of the material. Major producers were reluctant to sell at low prices while downstream end users could not ensure any profits at high production cost. Thin deals were made. Late the month, some producers became aggressive in clearing some stocks for fear tellurium price might retreat much as the downstream market entered off season. Deals were reported at lower prices as a result.
